Every Saturday in May, at 9pm, will be dedicated to the history of Albufeira.

As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the Municipality of Albufeira, in partnership with Parish Councils, presents a cycle of conversations between professionals in the municipality’s history and citizens. Under the title “Protagonists of Our History”, the moment aims for historians to invite Albufeirenses to share their experiences of a time, demonstrating with objects, letters, newspaper clippings and photographs, significant events in local history and the main transformations in Albufeira with the “Carnation Revolution”.

The first session starts on the 4th, at the Parish Council of Paderne, with Domingos Coelho. On May 11th, Adriano Ferrão moderates the conversation, at the Guia Parish Council. The following Saturday, the 18th, the event will be at the Parish Council of Olhos de Água, with Maria José Leote, and Bruno Carvalho will close the cycle, at the Parish Council of Ferreiras, on the 25th.

José Carlos Rolo, president of Albufeira City Council, guarantees that “this initiative dedicated to local and country history is, without a doubt, an opportunity to reflect on the past, understand the present and glimpse the future, in the year in which The 50th anniversary of April 25th is being celebrated, a date with profound historical significance that revolutionized democracy and fundamental rights in Portugal.”

In each session, the book “Um sopro de Liberdade – Albufeira 1974-2024” will be offered, published by the Municipality of Albufeira.
