This Tuesday, the 30th, the Judiciary Police (PJ) detained five individuals in possession of two suitcases loaded with cocaine, at Lisbon airport, as part of the “Ghost Passengers” operation. In a statement released this Wednesday, the PJ indicates that the five men went to the airport, “equipped with plane tickets that they did not use”, to collect the two pieces of luggage “coming from a flight from South America” and which were circulating in the airport. respective rolling mat for this purpose. Inside, the equivalent of “around 780 thousand individual doses of cocaine”.

The quintet is suspected of being part of a criminal organization dedicated to “trafficking drugs by air” and was intercepted by the authorities in flagrante delicto, as they left the airport, in an operation conducted by the National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking of the PJ, which included the collaboration of the PSP Airport Security Division. According to the PJ, two of the detainees were responsible for collecting the bags, under the supervision of the remaining three, “who were also carrying out counter-surveillance maneuvers”.

Following the arrests, house searches were also carried out which resulted in the seizure of “30 thousand euros in banknotes, three motor vehicles, a prohibited firearm, ammunition and various documentation”.

The operation follows an investigation by the Lisbon Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, which is continuing the investigation. The five detained at Lisbon airport are between 28 and 42 years old and have already been brought before a judge to determine coercive measures.
