The president of the association, Abraão Veloso, told JN this Wednesday that the initiative takes place within the scope of the “Love Ukraine/Solidarity Movement” campaign, which aims to send aid to Ukraine at three levels: food, medicine and heating . “The minimum objective is this. Candles are used to provide light and to warm hands and combat rations or even to cook something in the trenches,” he said.

The manufacturing work will take place in four workshops during the month of May, at the Quinta Pedagógica de Braga facilities. The idea originally came from an Algarve association, which sent Braga information about the candles it sends to Ukraine. “With the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian electrical system, candles can be very useful”, highlighted the association leader.

The organization also thanks residents for their contributions, inviting them to donate old candles, wax scraps, aluminum containers, small cans of pet food and corrugated cardboard. The materials can be delivered to the Quinta Pedagógica facilities or to the headquarters of the União de Freguesias de Maximinos, Sé and Catividade.
