Dr. Shape expands to the European market and plans to open in Portugal

-

With 70 franchises in Brazil, Dr. Shape, a chain of dietary supplements and sporting goods, will open its first store in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital. The new development will be located in an upscale neighborhood of the city, Parque das Nações, and will open this May.

This international expansion is the result of a partnership with Brazilian businesswomen Jô Sene and Helen Barros. Dr. Shape will make the store a model to adjust the operation to the European market, and the plans are to expand the network not only to other Portuguese cities, but also to other countries, such as Switzerland and Spain.

“The idea is to operate for a year and then expand. Today, Jô lives in Switzerland and I live in Portugal, so we have the idea of taking Dr. Shape to Switzerland as soon as we get ready”, comments Helen.

At the Portuguese unit, customers will be able to find products from several European brands, but they will not yet have Dr. Shape’s exclusive brands available.

“In principle, we will be able to implement the first three pillars in Portugal – and that makes a big difference, because there is no supplement sales company like ours in the country, specialized and with the purchasing experience we provide”, says Felipe Kalaes, partner-franchisor by Dr. Shape.

Dr. Shape operators in Portugal invested 100 thousand euros to open the store, and the brand sets a deadline of 24 months for the return of the amount. They are receiving all the know-how transfer from the brand, and the franchisor will provide the necessary support for daily operations.
