McDonald’s announced that it had acquired, in 2023, more than 16 thousand tons of national ingredients and food products in Portugal.

According to the press release, currently, around 40% of total purchases (in value) in terms of raw materials are made from Portuguese partners, with around 30 national suppliers supplying the 200 McDonald’s restaurants nationwide. .

By combining suppliers of goods and services with those of raw materials, the brand claims to currently work with 787 Portuguese companies, which represents around 73% in volume and 57% in value of the total purchases made by the brand in the country.

In this way, McDonald’s states that this commitment to “Portugueseness” is reflected in the ingredients it uses daily, such as fresh sliced tomatoes produced by Campotec, which also supplies fresh onions and Apples from Alcobaça, coming from the West; iceberg lettuce, salad mix and mini carrots, supplied by Vitacress or the ketchupproduced by Italagro (HIT Group) from tomatoes grown in the Ribatejo area.

Furthermore, the multinational also states that it is in Portugal that green bean and peasant soups (from Estêvão Luís Salvador), and carrot and pea creams (from Sopas Graciete) are produced.

In the same sense, the brand states that the breakfast offer and other McCafé products feature Portuguese production: the coffee and decaffeinated coffee are from Delta Cafés, the ham is from Nobre, the sliced Alentejo bread and cereal bread are supplied by Panike, while the milk and butter come from the Azores, supplied by Bel Portugal (Terra Nostra).

For Inês Lima, General Director of McDonald’s Portugal, the brand is proud to once again “recognize and highlight the fundamental role of our national partners, who enable us to offer consumers the best that is produced in Portugal. It is with this purpose that we maintain our strong commitment to the national economy, through partnerships with local suppliers in the regions where our 200 restaurants are present”.
