As part of European Melanoma Day, which is celebrated on May 8th, Braga Hospital will carry out free skin cancer screenings, with the aim of raising awareness among the population of the importance of early detection of this disease.

The initiative, promoted by the Dermatology Service of Hospital de Braga, aims to raise awareness about the care to be taken in everyday life and the “crucial” role of early diagnosis in the successful treatment of melanoma, the most aggressive type of skin cancer, among other types of skin cancer.

“Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, but it can be stopped if detected early. This screening is an opportunity to raise awareness about the primary prevention of melanoma, which can be achieved through simple but effective measures, such as adequate sun protection”, explains Celeste Brito.

“It is important that everyone is aware of any changes in their skin and that they consult their Family Doctor or a Dermatologist if they notice anything suspicious”, he concluded.

The screenings will take place between 09:00 and 13:00 on May 8, at the facilities of the Dermatology Service of Hospital de Braga. A participation is freebut Prior registration is mandatory and can be done by calling 253 027 381 (available on weekdays, from the 3rd to the 7th of May, from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00).
