The Taipense corporation’s party is always on May 1st. Every year, the anniversary becomes the center of political representation in Guimarães: with mayors, deputies of the Assembly of the Republic and, sometimes, with government officials.
Bad weather prevented the ceremony from taking place at the barracks parade ground, with the main hall serving as a stage for awards and speeches.
The president of the Municipality of Guimarães, Domingos Bragançahighlighted the importance of the role of firefighters and the existence of associations with a declared profile of public service and civil protection.
It is this spirit that makes the connection between the population and firefighters perennial, close, indelible and necessary. And the “volunteering” associated with the fulfillment of this mission may not disappear in its essence but tends to be professionalized depending on the quality of the service provided, more demanding and more constant in several areas, from health to the protection of goods and people.
The need for this “professionalization” increasingly growing was highlighted by the President of the Chamber because “it is only possible to protect well if, firstly, those who protect are protected and the best way to do this is to invest in personal protective equipment, in state-of-the-art technological equipment to combat different types of accidents, and in the constant training of our firefighters ”.
The availability of the Municipality of Guimarães to continue supporting this mission of the Taipas firefighters was expressed by Domingos Bragança which called on all entities, national, regional and local, to share the necessary effort, so that it can provide the equipment, training and remuneration necessary for the successful execution of its missionconcluding his speech with a tribute and word of thanks to all the Taipas firefighters.
Luís Soarespresident of the association’s board, thanked the support they have received from the Municipality, highlighting the importance of mobilizing the community, board presidents and parish priests in raising funds for the acquisition of the new intensive care ambulance, showing deep gratitude to to all and everyone who contributed. Luís Soares also mentioned that the path towards valuing human resources is “Take firm steps”having already carried out salary increases, preserving the institution’s financial health, and developed training activities for its staff, allowing the corporation’s members to be trained and professionalized.
The solemn session began with two tributes, one to the member Alberto Ribeiro and another to the commander Francisco Pereirafor their work and dedication to the cause of the Taipas Volunteer Firefighters, and the plaque stating the support that companies gave to the corporation was also unveiled.
