The public presentation of the finalists of the “Three Minutes of Thesis (3MT-UAlg)” competition will take place on May 11th, at 2:30 pm, in the 1.5 amphitheater of the Penha Campus Pedagogical Complex. 25 candidates were selected, out of the 53 who appeared for the competition.

“The “3MT-UAlg” was created with the aim of stimulating science communication skills of doctoral students and future scientists and, simultaneously, promoting scientific culture and interdisciplinarity, allowing non-specialist audiences access to the most recent research produced at the University do Algarve“, explains the institution in a statement.

The competition is aimed at all students enrolled in a doctoral study cycle. It consists of an oral presentation lasting a maximum of three minutes and using a single slide.

In the first selection phase, candidates submitted a video with a maximum duration of three minutes and a single-slide PDF document. In the second phase, the finalists will present their communication orally before the jury and the public.

The winner will receive a prize worth four thousand euros and second place will receive two thousand euros. More information can be found here.

The jury is made up of UAlg professors Bruno Silva (Higher School of Education and Communication), Jorge Semião (Higher Institute of Engineering), Leonor Cancela (Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences), Nuno Bicho (Rector), Margarida Castro (Faculty of Sciences and Technology), Marisol Correia (Higher School of Hotel and Tourism Management), and by Observador journalist, Vera Novais.
