In an initiative that took place today in Funchal, Élvio Sousa directly questioned the Funchal council executive, “and on behalf of all Madeirans who want greater competition in the supermarket sector, where is the LIDL chain’s entry into Funchal, especially the store planned for Largo Severiano Ferraz.

The JPP candidate for president of the Regional Government recalled the delays that were caused to the LIDL chain in Madeira. “JPP will always be on the trail of the barriers that are placed by the PSD and CDS executives to the implementation of a supermarket chain with competitive prices that can, equally, bring not only more competition but also the desirable shake-up to the monopolies that there are dozens of years affect the cost of living of Madeirans, particularly in terms of maritime transport of goods, 18% more expensive than in the Azores”, he said.

“After the Funchal Chamber’s attempts to hide the reasons for the alleged delays in licensing that food chain in Funchal, in the face of the allegory of some information bodies that have taken Calado and Pedra into their laps, we ask what the status of licensing is. of the LIDL investment process in Largo Severiano Ferraz, since it received an unfavorable opinion from the Funchal City Council?”, asked the JPP leader.

Élvio Sousa also lamented the way in which the municipality, led by Pedro Calado and now Cristina Pedra, acted throughout the process: “the JPP has always found council distrust strange about the robust investment of a globally renowned supermarket chain like LIDL. An investment of more than 100 million euros, which would bring products to the regional market at cheaper prices, forcing the competition to do the same, undoing price agreements that affect the pockets of Madeirans and Porto Santos”.

“Add to this the approximately 150 jobs it will create, because we believe that against all interests, LIDL will come to Madeira. So Madeirans make their democratic choices well”, he concluded.
