As part of the celebrations of the 25th of April, the Municipality of Azambuja held the award ceremony for the XVII Literary Competition at the municipal level. This 2023/2024 edition received the participation of 57 works by authors aged between 11 and 76 years old.
According to the municipality, more than twenty distinctions were awarded, including winners and honorable mentions in the five categories open to the creativity of the participants – comics, poetry, short stories, chronicles and dramatic texts. Regarding the prizes, awarded in the form of a gift card, the best work in each category was awarded a prize worth €75.00 in the first category (10-14 years old), €150.00 in the second (15-18) and €200.00 in the third category (19 years or over).
The competition, which has been around for a decade and a half, is aimed at all people who work, reside or are natives of the Municipality of Azambuja; being promoted, in a special way, among students from the School Groups of Azambuja, Vale Aveiras and Alto de Azambuja, with the collaboration of librarian teachers.
At this year’s ceremony, in addition to the awarding of the last edition’s awards, the winners of the 2022/2023 Literary Competition were also called to the stage and received a book, published by the municipality, where their work is recorded.
It should be noted that the initiative is promoted by the Azambuja Municipal Library Network in conjunction with the libraries of the three school groups and aims to continue to develop and encourage creative writing, stimulate the spirit of initiative, encourage a taste for reading and publicize what It’s good to write and draw throughout the Municipality of Azambuja. Among the criteria to be evaluated by the competition jury were, in particular, literary quality and creativity, linguistic correctness, organization and coherence of the text.
