The socialist bill proposed the elimination of tolls “on sections and subsections of motorways in the Interior (ex-scut) or where there are no alternative routes that allow quality and safe use”. It was only approved because Chega combined its votes with those of the Left, enough to reach a majority. Previously, in the debate, the PSD had accused the PS and Chega of “collusion”.

Of the three bills presented, this was the only one approved. The remainder, from BE and PCP, were rejected with votes against from the four Right-wing parties.

Four draft resolutions were also voted on (which only aim to make a recommendation to the Government). All of them were rejected, including one from PSD and CDS which, instead of the total abolition of tolls, advocated a “gradual and financially responsible reduction”. Only IL voted alongside Social Democrats and Christian Democrats; Chega joined PS and PCP in voting against, while BE, Livre and PAN decided to abstain.

The PS proposal motivated several declarations of vote, both from socialist and social-democratic deputies. Most of them are parliamentarians elected by circles in the Interior or the Algarve, who made a point of explaining, in writing, the reasons for their vote.

The socialist diploma now approved aims to end tolls on the A4 (Transmontana and Túnel do Marão), A13 and A13-1 (Pinhal Interior), A22 (Algarve – Via do Infante), A23 (Beira Interior), A24 (Interior Norte) , A25 (Beiras Litoral and Alta) and A28 (Minho, in the sections between Esposende and Antas and between Neiva and Darque).
