Bringing a thousand homemade warming candles to fighters in Ukraine. This is the objective of the new campaign that UPE-Centro Social e Cultural Luso Ucraniano, in Braga, is carrying out, starting this Saturday, with a workshop entitled “Artisanal manufacturing of heating candles”.
Its president Abraão Veloso told O MINHO that the initiative takes place within the scope of the “Love Ukraine/Solidarity Movement” campaign, which aims to send aid to Ukraine at three levels: food, medicine and heating.
“The minimum objective is this! Candles are used to provide light, to warm hands and combat rations or even, using several candles, to cook something in the trenches,” he said.
The manufacturing work, which will take place in May, in four different workshops, at the Quinta Pedagógica de Braga facilities, was originally an initiative of the Algarve association Oranta, which sent copies of the candles it sends to Ukraine to Braga and the way to do them.
“With the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian electrical system, candles can be very useful”, highlighted the association leader.
The organization is also grateful for the contribution of residents with the material necessary for the objective, through the delivery of old candles, wax remains, aluminum containers, small cans of animal food and corrugated cardboard, with delivery to the Quinta Pedagógica facilities or to headquarters of the Union of Parishes of Maximinos, Sé and Catividade.
