The Competition Authority (AdC) recommended this Thursday to the Government and the airport manager ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal that they guarantee equality between taxis and TVDE in access to Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports.

“The AdC made a recommendation regarding the conditions for the pick-up and drop-off of passengers at Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports”, reads a statement released today.

Competition recommends that the Government ensure that parking management at airports “does not result in discriminatory and unjustified conditions” for passenger transport providers, such as taxis and TVDE (individual passenger transport in an unidentified vehicle).

In turn, ANA is suggested to review the conditions for “picking up and dropping off passengers” by TVDE at airports, namely access conditions and tariffs, which must be “neutral and not specific to certain providers”.

The AdC said it identified that TVDEs, when equated to private vehicles, are subject to payments for picking up and dropping off passengers, after exhausting a certain number of free daily accesses.

The payments in question are not applied to other operators, such as taxis.

On the other hand, he stated that TVDEs “are placed at a competitive disadvantage” in accessing the terminal, as they do not have direct access to the door.

With these recommendations, the regulator wants to promote a “fair competitive environment”.
