The president of the National Union of Police Officers said this Thursday that police officers feel “extremely unfair” with the proposal presented this Thursday by the Government, considering that it does not “even have the dignity to be a proposal”.

“It’s been a long time since I felt so astonished. We feel extremely wronged by this kick-off. It’s a proposal that doesn’t even have the dignity to be a proposal”, Bruno Pereira told journalists, at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Internal Administration.

At the meeting with the six PSP unions, Margarida Blasco proposed a mission supplement for PSP and GNR members of between 365.13 and 625.94 euros, which will replace the current supplement for service and risk in the security forces .

With this new mission supplement, which takes as a reference the base salary of the PSP’s national director, there are police officers who receive a salary lower than what they currently earn, according to the unions.

According to the proposal presented by the Government to the PSP unions, officers would receive a mission supplement of 12% of the base salary of the PSP national director, which is 5,216.23 euros, while the percentage for chiefs is 9% and for agents 7%.

“We hope that now with our counter-proposal there is sense to discuss this and bring it to a conclusion that is acceptable and reasonable”, said Bruno Pereira, who is also a spokesperson for the structure that brings together the PSP unions and GNR socio-professional associations.

According to Bruno, the platform will present a counter-proposal to the minister at the next meeting, which will take place on May 15th.

The police demand a mission supplement identical to that which the previous Socialist Government allocated to the Judicial Police, which in some cases was an increase of 700 euros.

Bruno Pereira stated that for now the unions “are not thinking about protest”, as they hope that “from the 15th there will be a truly fair and dignified discussion”.

In this sense, he appealed to members of the security forces to, until the 15th, have “some serenity so that some time can be given for the minister to reestablish a plan of dignity in the discussion”, but warned of the possibility of “inorganic movements without faces being able to ride on this type of proposal”.

The president of the union that represents the majority of PSP commanders and directors also said that the proposal “falls far short of the minimum”.

“The minister threw the data very low. A proposal to increase the value of 75 euros and which would not even be used by all professionals, this is worse than the previous Government when it allocated the risk subsidy”, he stated.

In addition to the PSP unions, Margarida Blasco also presented the proposal to five socio-professional associations of the Republican National Guard.

At the end of the meeting, the president of the Association of Guard Professionals (APG), César Nogueira, classified this first Government proposal as “very bad”, indicating that the number of members of the security forces would, with this proposal, increase up to 75 euros.

César Nogueira maintained that he was “stunned” when the minister presented the proposal, stressing that it will be “very difficult to contain the indignation of professionals”.
