The Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, summoned Fernando Araújo, the resigned executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), to a meeting at the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, having asked him to draw up the 2024 Summer Plan for the SNS, a traditionally complex period due to health professionals’ vacations. Since he will no longer be in office — as he submitted his resignation on April 22nd and this was accepted by the guardianship, being only dependent on the delivery of the report that had been previously requested from him —, Fernando Araújo refused. But the Government assures that it “will find mechanisms to ensure that the summer runs normally”, despite admitting that it had “founded expectations” that this plan could be made available by the current executive management, since “it is planning that is done with several months in advance.”
