O leader of Rebordosa, fifth placed in Series B, sponsored the harshest terms and justified the opinion that “Campeonato de Portugal (CP) is in mourning” with the experience of 26 years as president of the club.

“It is unacceptable for us to remain without competing for so long, especially because commitments continue to exist and must be fulfilled, but revenues fall. We cannot force sponsors to pay for advertising that cannot be done or partners to pay for more time without football. This could leave many clubs in a very complicated situation”, said Joaquim Barbosa today, speaking to the Lusa agency.

The president of Rebordosa sympathizes with the concern revealed by the Porto Football Association, although he understands that this alone is not enough, arguing that “all the presidents of the CP clubs should come together and take a joint position”, so as not to let “something at a third world level” continue.

Of the 56 clubs participating in the Portuguese Championship, only eight, from the first two of the four existing series, remain in the competition. For the rest, in the majority, the championship ended at the beginning of April, approximately three months before returning to work.

“I’m very apprehensive”, he confessed, fearing that players will try to keep in shape in gyms or competing in recreational activities, even in other sports, causing injuries, which then harm one another.

The president of União de Paredes, for whom permanence was only assured on the last day, joined the protests and contested, above all, “the competitive model”, considering that it “does not benefit clubs, players and coaches” and “aggravates the difficulties in raising support.”

“There have been months with just two games and, out of 14 teams, five are down. Maybe, instead of the four series, they were only doing three, but with more teams and games to play”, defended Pedro Silva, speaking to Lusa.

For the Parense director, “the clubs have to be supportive to have a say”, anticipating difficulties even when it comes to signing players.

“Even if the project presented is attractive, the players will always be left behind, because, if the club is unable to reach the final stage, they will play less, have fewer opportunities to prove themselves and, perhaps, earn less”, he stressed, insisting on the idea that “it is never too late to change what is wrong”.
