PS list for Europeans includes deputies and mayors in office – Politics

The list of PS candidates for the European Parliament includes deputies elected in the March legislatures and mayors in office.

Former Health Minister Marta Temido, elected by Lisbon in the legislature, is the head of the socialists’ list. The European numbers two and three, Francisco Assis and Ana Catarina Mendes, respectively topped the lists in Porto and Setúbal in March.

The president of the Chamber of Amadora and the Metropolitan Council of Lisbon, Carta Tavares, is the sixth name of the socialists and has already suspended her mandate in the municipality. Serving her third term as president of the Portimão Chamber, Isilda Gomes occupies seventh place on the list.

The ninth candidate for the European Parliament is Miguel Lemos, administrator of Águas de Gaia. In 2022, the current secretary general of the PS – at the time Minister of Infrastructure -, Pedro Nuno Santos, chose him to the presidency of the Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo. However, Pedro Nuno Santos’ successor in Government, João Galamba, preferred to appoint João Neves to the position.

Former socialist deputies Joana Sá Pereira and Pedro do Carmo occupy the tenth and eleventh places on the list. The first ran for Aveiro and the second for Beja in the legislative elections, but both failed to be elected to the Assembly of the Republic.

In Portugal, the European elections take place on June 9th.
