The general secretary of the PCP, Paulo Raimundo considered this Friday, in Porto, “inconceivable” and a “trick” the proposals presented by the Government in meetings with the security forces and teachers, respectively, to obtain salary improvements.

In the speech that concluded the presentation of the PCP’s Commitment for the elections to the European Parliament, the communist leader alluded to the meetings that took place on Thursday with the security forces and, this Friday, with the various teachers’ unions to point out that the warnings he made in recent months were justified.

“It’s not worth making promises and then, when they reach the Government, looking for all the justifications for not fulfilling the promises they are making now”, stated Paulo Raimundo, repeating a phrase “said this January”.

Considering exactly what he stated was happening, the communist leader insisted that “the last few hours have been crystal clear about this situation.”

“The current minister of accounts with Brussels [Joaquim Sarmento] accuses the previous minister of clear accounts with Brussels [Fernando Medina] of missing the counts. The current minister of accounts with Brussels is looking for justifications for not fulfilling his promises”, pointed out the communist leader.

And he continued: “look at the inconceivable proposals made to the security forces yesterday [quinta-feira]see this trick, today, for teachers, who in exchange for the recognition of their length of service, in a day to come, want rights that were acquired”.

“This is the maneuver that is underway”, he stressed, alluding to the warnings he said he had made “since the beginning of the year and until the last day of the electoral campaign”.

He then spoke about the manifesto to change justice in Portugal: “still today we know 50 personalities, with great responsibilities and diverse influences, who exercised and still exercise great public and even governmental responsibilities, who came to demand changes in Justice”.

“Changes are necessary, the problem is the time that has already been lost (…), better late than never, but we needn’t have reached what we have”, criticized Paulo Raimundo, assuring the PCP’s commitment “to improvements in Justice, so that it serves everyone”.
