The calendar for the PS’s internal elections was approved this Saturday by the party’s National Commission, with five votes against according to information provided to Lusa by an official source.

The meeting of this highest body between congresses, which has been taking place since this morning in Lisbon, is attended by around two hundred people, according to the same source.

The leader of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, entered the meeting without speaking to journalists, with statements to the media scheduled for the end of this meeting, which takes place behind closed doors.

The calendar for internal elections, announced on Friday by Lusa, had five votes against and the rest in favor, while the regulations being voted on were unanimously approved.

Thus, on July 5th and 6th there will be elections for the sections, councils and municipal structures of Socialist Women – Equality and Rights.

On September 27th and 28th, elections will be held for the presidents of the federations, of the federative structures of Socialist Women – Equality and Rights, of the political commissions of the federative structures of Socialist Women – Equality and Rights and of delegates to the congresses of the federations.

The congresses of the PS federations should take place on October 12th and 13th.

These internal elections will be the first in the era of Pedro Nuno Santos’ leadership.

In November last year, after the resignation of António Costa, the National Commission revoked the internal calendar that it had approved before the political crisis, which predicted elections for section, council and federative bodies for the beginning of this year.

According to the decision taken at the time, these electoral acts in the district and local structures of the PS should take place in a period after the early legislative elections on March 10th.

In the last elections for federations, in November 2022, socialist activists elected six new federative leaders, in Braga, Bragança, Oeste, Porto, Portalegre and Vila Real, and re-elected the presidents of 13 federations.
