The symbolic start of the Rehabilitation and Expansion project of the Reserve System of the City of Aveiro was marked yesterday by the city council and Águas da Região de Aveiro (AdRA).
The aim of the work is to modernize the supply system for the city of Aveiro and, due to its location, the population it serves and the entities that depend on it, it is considered one of the city’s highly critical infrastructures.
After a period of major investment in new networks, AdRA will continue to intensify investment in the renovation and rehabilitation of its infrastructures. This reserve system, built in the mid-1950s, on Rua Mário Sacramento, has a reserve capacity of 1,750m3 and consists of two 500m3 supported cells and a 750m3 pressure tower.
AdRA was born 14 years ago and, since then, «we have been with the house on our backs: we were at AdRA itself, at the city hall, next to the old Cliria, now we are at the Aveiro CP station». However, the president of the AdRA board of directors, Fernando Vasconcelos, confided “the desire to have our space”. «And, as we had this reservoir, in a prime space in the city, after speaking with the council, we decided to move forward».
