The 21st of May will be the start date for charging the tourist tax in Albufeira. Before that, the president of the City Council wants clarification actions for those who own the approximately nine thousand local accommodation units and those responsible for the approximately 150 hotel units in the municipality.

In total there will be six actions, divided between the 10th and 14th of May, to take place in the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira. Among others, the aim is to clarify doubts about how the tourist tax is charged and paid. Interested parties must register now via email: [email protected]

The Municipality of Albufeira has scheduled six clarification sessions for the 10th and 14th of May, regarding the Tourist Tax applied in the Municipality, particularly regarding how it is charged and paid. There are the same clarifications in each session, but two dates were created so that all interested parties can be present. The morning actions start at 11 am and run until 1 pm, for those responsible for the hotels. In the afternoon, those responsible for local accommodation will be divided into two groups, one for the session from 2pm to 4pm and the other for the session from 6pm to 8pm. These sessions will take place at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium.

Remember that Albufeira is one of the most touristic municipalities in the country, having more than 150 hotel units and more than nine thousand local accommodations.

The Tourism Tax Regulation of the Municipality of Albufeira aims to ensure that the resources necessary for the development of Tourism in the municipality are also ensured by the tourist activity itself, through the contribution of the tourists themselves, naturally ensuring a basis of proportionality, consideration and balance, with the objective to preserve the competitiveness of the Municipality of Albufeira, in the national and international context of reference tourist destinations.

It should be noted that it was published today (30 April 2024) in the Diário da República that the entry into force of the Tourist Tax would be on the 2nd of May, however, as far as Albufeira is concerned, “it is suspended until the 20th of May, given that some constraints have arisen in the use of the payment computer application, with the expected start date of collection being May 21st”, explains the president of Albufeira City Council, José Carlos Rolo.

According to the mayor, although Tourism promotes economic and social development, “it also implies an overload of public action and the provision of municipal services itself, which is why it is essential to have a capacity to respond to the growth in demand, as well as assume the best strategies to enable the development of a sustainable, adequate and infrastructured environment”. José Carlos Rolo adds that the Municipality of Albufeira intends to invest in projects relating to the following areas of activity: accessibility and enhancement of the coastline, actions in the context of climate change, sustainability and mobility, support for relief and emergency forces, health support, cultural heritage and promotion of cultural and sporting activities, tourism promotion, tourism enhancement actions, maintenance and conservation of infrastructure in tourist areas and development of new tourism products.

The information sessions are free, but registration is required for organizational purposes, so confirmation and choice of the day and time of the session are requested via email: [email protected]
