The mayor of Paredes de Coura targeted the opening of a technology center for the first quarter of 2025, with an investment of more than 1.7 million euros, to encourage scientific research in the municipality.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, on the sidelines of the National Robotics Festival, taking place until Sunday in that municipality, Vítor Paulo Pereira, said that 1.3 million euros will be invested in technological equipment.

The contract for the conversion of an old Sporting Clube Courense building, in the center of the town, is estimated at 464 thousand euros.

The work will start in June and will have to be completed by the end of September, mid-October. After this phase, the space will be fully equipped, recreating “a school factory”.

“It’s one thing to have laboratories at school and another to have a pavilion that can create the atmosphere of a factory. We will have robotics, advanced welding, computer programming. Basically, everything that is happening at the National Robotics Festival.

The technological center will, above all, serve EPRAMI – Escola Profissional do Alto Minho Interior students, who will have a space to learn in a work context”, explained the socialist mayor.

For Vítor Paulo Pereira, the future technological center “will attract new students to Paredes de Coura, attracted by the innovative proposals that EPRAMI presents”.

The project, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), meets the municipality’s commitment to robotics, “making perfect sense to hold the national festival in the municipality”.
