Madeira receives 65 patients transferred from Ponta Delgada hospital

Madeira will receive a total of 65 patients from the Azores, transferred from the Ponta Delgada hospital, hit by a fire on Saturday, the Madeiran regional health secretary said today.

Speaking to journalists, Pedro Ramos explained that the first group arrived this afternoon on an air force plane and, by the end of the day, the region will receive 62 people undergoing hemodialysis, two pregnant women and one patient in intensive care.

“Our response capacity is fully articulated” to “ensure all conditions” for transferred patients, stated the government official, highlighting that anyone needing accommodation will stay in Garrison Regiment No. 3 (RG3), in Madeira.

The Government of the Azores declared, this Sunday, the situation of public calamity due to the fire at the Ponta Delgada Hospital and the regional secretary of Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, said that the health unit has already been subject to two inspections, but still There is no forecast for resuming normal operation of the equipment.

The fire in the hospital forced the transfer of all hospitalized patients.

At the time of the fire, there were “333 patients in the Hospital in Ponta Delgada” and it was necessary to “transfer 240 patients”, according to the head of Health in the Azores.

The most critical and serious patients were transferred to the CUF hospital, in the city of Lagoa, and the rest to health centers.
