Gulbenkian Foundation opens applications for artistic residencies in Lisbon and Oeiras

The Gulbenkian Foundation has opened registrations for three artistic residencies, which will take place in Oeiras and Lisbon, until May 14th. These multidisciplinary residencies seek to promote the connection between sustainability, inclusivity and creativity with a local impact.

Applications are open until May 14th for three multidisciplinary residencies in the ‘Bauhaus of the Seas Sails’ initiative, which are in partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, through the Modern Art Center. Each residence is integrated into one of the three pilot projects that will be developed in Lisbon and Oeiras.

Therefore, the Art & Science residency ‘A Call to the Sea’, part of the pilot project ‘Ocean Literacy’, invites artists and scientists to present collaborative proposals. These must come from the zoological collections of the Vasco da Gama Aquarium, in Oeiras. Likewise, they must also propose reflection and inspire innovative solutions on the role of museums in society and the relationship between human beings and Nature.

The Art & Gastronomy residency ‘Eating Between Tides’, part of the ‘Regenerative Menu’ pilot project, invites you to develop a co-design process between a visual artist, a chef and a municipal school, and to develop a regenerative menu that include ingredients from the Tagus Estuary. This menu will then be tested in schools and artistic institutions in Lisbon.

Finally, the Art & Design residency ‘Radical Water – Concrete Matters’, from the pilot project ‘Blue Makerspace’, encourages the creation of a prototype for the public space. This must be built from materials coming from the Mar da Palha bio-region and/or the development of a library of materials that come from existing resources in the Tagus Estuary and that can be used in future projects. Submission of applications ends on May 14th at 4pm.
