The Municipality of Alcanena celebrates on Wednesday, May 8th, the 110th anniversary of the founding of the municipality. The program includes tributes to the founders and promoters of Alcanena’s elevation to a municipality, tribute to deceased mayors, a solemn session and a concert by Rui Veloso. On Thursday, the 9th, the new Citizen Space will be inaugurated.
The official celebrations, in which the municipality invites the entire population to participate, begin at 8 am on May 8, Wednesday, with a decentralized dawn, in Alcanena and the parishes, and with the raising of the Flag in the parishes of the municipality.
At 9 am, in Praça 8 de Maio, the Solemn Hoisting of the Flag will begin, with a Guard of Honor by the Municipal Firefighters of Alcanena following the Homage to the Founders and Promoters of the Municipality. At 9:15 am, a tribute to the deceased mayors will take place at the Alcanena Municipal Cemetery.
At 6pm, the Noble Hall of Alcanena City Council will host the solemn session that will mark the 110th anniversary of the founding of the municipality, and in the evening, Praça 8 de Maio will be the stage for the commemorative concert, with free entry, by musician Rui Veloso, the from 9:30 pm.
During the municipal holiday, on May 9th, Ascension Thursday, the inauguration of Espaço Cidadão and the future Espaço Empresa, at Praça Marechal Carmona, in Alcanena, is scheduled for 5pm, in a ceremony that will be attended by the Minister of Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes.
