“The solution appears to be mandatory military service. In central and eastern Europe? Yes, because they see a war at their doorstep. In the south and west of Europe, this war is distant and the urgency is not felt”, Nuno Rogeiro assesses the hypothesis put forward by the current Minister of National Defense, Nuno Melo. Attracting young people to this career, the commentator suggests, can involve other incentives, such as tax exemptions, improvements in conditions, progression proposals and the implementation of discipline in schools or universities on national defense.
