The first six days of the month recorded an accumulated rainfall of 146mm, exceeding the “normal” value for May (113mm) by 30%. The data is advanced by MeteoFreixo, according to data collected by the meteorological station in the parish of Freixo, Ponte de Lima.
The school club said that, last Sunday alone, an abnormal rainfall of 76 mm was recorded. That is, in one day it rained “two thirds of what is expected in the month of May”.
“Reports of the impacts of this abundant rainfall were evident with the overflow of the river Vez and river Lima with cuts in roads (Viana do Castelo and Arcos de Valdevez), ecovias and the parking lot on the Ponte de Lima beach”, said O MINHO the professor Sérgio Bastos.
But May will be “crazy”, says the same source, as there will be a sudden change in the weather: “After a very rainy last week, this will be very different with the arrival of an anticyclone with an easterly wind that will bring weather dry and a sharp rise in temperature with maximum temperatures very close to 30ºC”.
