Event on active participation of young people takes place in Faro

On May 15th, at 4:30 pm, Projeto Gea, Associação Sê Mais Sê Melhor, Associação Liláz and with the support of IPDJ Faro, will organize an event aimed at young people in the central region of the Algarve focused on the active participation of young people in community, at the IPDJ facilities in Faro.

The main objective of this initiative, aimed at young people between 16 and 30 years old, with free entry, is to “understand the needs of young people in the region. Additionally, this meeting seeks to revive active participation among young people in the community and reactivate the spirit of belonging through volunteering. In an informal sharing of experiences, the entities involved will try to raise awareness among young people about the importance of community involvement and how it can contribute to young people’s lives (gaining experience, sense of community and purpose, etc.) trying to deconstruct the myth that volunteering is ‘working for free’ and gives nothing in return”, highlights the Gea project, in a statement.

Through open and dynamic conversations, young people will be given the stage to express their opinions, concerns and challenges of their generation and the origin of the lack of active participation in their community.

In this event, “the associations seek to find ways to understand young people and their real needs and identify barriers and limitations to their participation in the community, while at the same time empowering them by providing them with information, skills and resources that can increase their ability to contribute significantly to community initiatives”, highlights this project.

As a way of better understanding the reality of this generation, the organization created a quick-fill form that young people between 16 and 30 years old can respond with “some important information for a more assertive approach and better preparation for the event on the 15th”, reinforces the organization.
