Hamas has already stated that it accepts the proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip mediated by Egypt and Qatar. The information was provided by the Islamist movement. “Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’s political bureau, spoke by telephone with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdelrahmane Al Thani and Egyptian Secret Service Minister Abbas Kamel and informed them that Hamas approved its proposal for a ceasefire agreement,” the group said in a statement.
The decision is now on Israel’s side, which will have to accept the agreement or not, but for now it considered the proposal “superficial” and argued that it is “not the same proposal” as an agreement that Israel and Egypt reached 10 days ago, and which served as the basis for all indirect negotiations, revealed Israeli channel 12.
This plan is organized into several steps. The first envisages the release of 33 hostages in exchange for the release of hundreds of terrorists, a ceasefire lasting more than a month, the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Netzer Corridor and increased humanitarian aid. In a second, the release of soldiers and men, in exchange for the release of serious terrorists with long prison sentences and continuing the ceasefire for more than a month. And finally, the release of the bodies of hostages held in Gaza and the total withdrawal of the IDF from the Gaza Strip.
However, Israel has repeatedly rejected ending the war as part of a hostage agreement, insisting instead that it will resume fighting as soon as the agreement is implemented, in line with its dual war aims: returning the hostages and destroying the Hamas armed and military forces.
It is recalled that for several months now, Egypt and Qatar have been mediating talks between Israel and Hamas, seeking to find a solution to the war sparked by the attack by the Islamist movement on Israeli territory, last October.
