The Regional Center of the Portuguese League Against Cancer Center (NRC.LPCC) opened the deadline for applications for Research Grants in Oncology from today (6).

To the six awarded in the last edition, there is added, for the first time, a research grant aimed at Research in the area of ​​gynecological cancer, the Professor Carlos de Oliveira Grant.

Four NRC-LPCC/CIMAGO Oncology Research Grants, a Dr. Rocha Alves Fellowship, a Dr. Dário Cruz Fellowship and, for the first time, a Professor Carlos de Oliveira Fellowship. There are seven research grants in oncology announced this Monday by NRC.LPCC, with applications open until June 30th.

The NRC.LPCC thus has 70,000 euros to encourage innovative cancer research projects, distributing this amount equally across the seven grants in the 2024/2025 edition.

This year, the big news is the creation of the Professor Carlos de Oliveira Scholarship, in honor of the gynecologist, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, former president of the Portuguese League Against Cancer and the Regional Center of the Center, for his indelible academic career in the area of ​​gynecological cancer.

Present at the symbolic session that took place at the Institution’s headquarters, in Coimbra, the honoree did not hide his pride and “honor” of seeing his name attributed to a Research Grant, remembering the years in which he was linked to the Institution and reinforcing the desire to see this scholarship last over time, with gratifying results. “I hope to be able to see one day later a fellow from this Research Grant who has contributed to the survival or cure of an oncology patient”, he concludes.

Vítor Rodrigues, president of NRC.LPCC, gave a brief overview of the scholarships awarded in recent years, highlighting the launch of a seventh in this edition, and stressing that “this is only possible thanks to the support of the community, it is up to us to know how to manage in the best way”, adding, also, that, if the IRS Consignment increases to 1% “it will be possible next year to award more scholarships or a larger amount”.

Isabel Carreira, coordinator of the Center for Research in Environment, Genetics and Oncobiology (CIMAGO), and José Manuel Casanova, president of ACIMAGO (CIMAGO Support Association), also present at the session, highlighted the leading role of the former president of the NRC .LPCC, Carlos de Oliveira, who initiated the existing partnership, congratulating himself on the “continuous growth” it has experienced over the years.

Research Grants 2024/2025

Remember that the NRC-LPCC/CIMAGO 2024/25 Oncology Research Grants are intended for researchers with the possibility of developing, in Portugal, a research project in the area of ​​oncology, within the scope of the Research Center’s research activities in Environment, Genetics and Oncobiology (CIMAGO). All researchers with a degree and/or a master’s or doctorate degree, who present a research project in oncology to be developed within the scope of a research team that is part of CIMAGO, can apply for these Scholarships.

The Dr. Rocha Alves Scholarship covers researchers with a research project in oncology, to be developed within the scope of a research team based in one of the districts of the Central region. All licensed researchers and/or those with a master’s or doctor’s degree can apply for this scholarship.

The Dr. Dário Cruz Scholarship is intended for research teams that include licensed researchers and/or with master’s or doctoral degrees, who present a research project in the area of ​​breast cancer and who are based in the districts of the Central region. of the NRC.LPCC action area.

The Professor Carlos de Oliveira Scholarship is intended for research projects in the area of ​​gynecological oncology, and research teams that include licensed researchers and/or with master’s or doctor’s degrees and who are based in one of the districts of the Central region can compete.

Applications for the NRC.LPCC 2024/25 Oncology Research Grants are open from today (6) until June 30, 2024 and the projects will be assessed by the jury 45 days after the end of the application period. applications. The results will be communicated 15 days after the jury’s decision, followed by the signing of the scholarship award contracts.
