DR

The renewal of the cadre of higher education researchers enhances their careers and doctoral candidates, concludes a survey carried out by the General Directorate of the Academic Association of Coimbra (DG-AAC). Several questions were asked to researchers and doctoral students at the University of Coimbra, with 128 responses obtained, 91% of which defended the need to renew the framework.
Thus, DG-AAC claims “the urgency to increase investment in this area to reach, in 2030, the target of 3% of GDP stipulated by the European Commission within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR)”.

PhD can be harmful in companies

In relation to three other questions posed to the Doctoral Student Center (NEDUC), 62.5% responded that “holding a doctorate can be a discriminatory factor in accessing the job market in the private sector”; 57% state that, “without the collaboration of students from the 1st and 2nd cycles of studies in research centers, it would be more difficult to achieve the objectives”; and 59% conclude that their training in Portugal “is not adequately dignified”.
