More than 70 students suffered food poisoning after a course dinner at a restaurant in Braga
Young law students from the University of Minho were hospitalized.
More than 70 students, aged between 18 and 23, from the Law course at the University of Minho were hospitalized after suffering from food poisoning following a course dinner held last Friday, in a restaurant located in Fórum Braga.
“They vomited nonstop, they couldn’t keep anything in their stomachs, some even fainted, they had dizziness, headaches and diarrhea”, explains the young woman.
Dinner included starters and the choice between duck rice or cod with cream. “We were very poorly served, but we didn’t expect to get food poisoning”, he guarantees. “I had no symptoms, but there were even more people who felt unwell, but didn’t go to the hospital. A colleague of mine showed these symptoms tonight. She went to the hospital and they already knew what it was,” she adds.
The students were treated in hospitals in Braga, Famalicão, Guimarães and Póvoa de Varzim. To what the CM found out, all the young people hospitalized in Braga, around 60, have already been discharged.
“We just don’t want a situation like this to happen again with other people”, says the student.
To the CM, the restaurant owner guarantees that the dishes were prepared from 6 pm on Friday afternoon. “Everything was done on the spot, but what interests me is people’s health. So far it has not yet been contacted by any competent entity”, she says. “I have saved samples of the food that was served. Now I want to analyze it to understand what is going on, I just want this situation to be clarified”, she emphasizes. The owner also states that in another room there were 32 other people who ate the same dishes and had no complaints.
