The Centro das Artes e do Espetáculo de Sever do Vouga hosts the premiere of “As Laranjas da Minha Avó” next Saturday, May 11th, at 9:30 pm. There will be 31 Severenses on stage, aged from 8 to 80, to tell the story of a grandmother, of all grandparents. A fictional story that is the motto to showcase the history of the municipality of Sever do Vouga in yet another artistic creation by Severi.

In “As Laranjas da Minha Avó”, the story is told by Teresa, in direct speech, being a true guardian of memories. The old lady travels to the past to revisit her experiences and pass on her most precious memories to her granddaughter, inspiring her to fight for her own dreams and aspirations.

From the depths of Minas do Braçal to the journeys of Vouguinha, from Fábrica das Massas Vouga to Agricultural Cooperatives, we will be transported to parallel worlds, between reality and fiction, in which each memory is a time capsule that takes us to the past and illuminates the gift.

As Patrícia Fernandes, author of the play, explains, “As Laranjas da Minha Avó is a celebration of oral tradition and wisdom accumulated over generations, proving that the stories of our ancestors are treasures that we must preserve and share, to the extent that each life is a journey of love and courage that deserves to be told”, he summarizes.

The presentation of this show is the culmination of a long journey, within the scope of the First Stage Project. First, children and young people from the municipality of Sever do Vouga toured the municipality of lés-a-lés to hear many testimonies. All told in the first person, by what Severi called Guardians of Memory. The stories were left to ferment, the creativity and vision of youth were added to the recipe, theater and creative writing workshops followed, resulting in the final script made up of several stories. One by one they were counted in the parishes. From Minas do Braçal, to the old Vale Vouga railway line, staged visits were promoted in unusual locations, the true stages of this initiative. Now it’s time for all the stories to come together as one, in the presentation of the final show.
