All the sea beaches in the municipality of Caminha, as well as Praia Fluvial das Azenhas, in Vilar de Mouros, will once again be “dressed” in Blue during the next bathing season. The Blue Flag will be raised in 2024 at Praia de Caminha – Foz do Minho, Praia de Moledo, Praia de Vila Praia de Âncora and Praia do Forte do Cão, as well as the emblematic Praia Fluvial das Azenhas, in Vilar de Mouros.

It is worth remembering that, in 2015, for the first time in 26 years, since the Blue Flag was awarded, the municipality of Caminha managed to win the Blue Flag on four sea beaches, including Vila Praia de Âncora on the award-winning beaches.

In 2018, another important achievement was achieved, with the success of the candidacy of Praia das Azenhas, in Vilar de Mouros. In 2019 it was “all blue” again and in 2020 it was repeated: five applications – five Blue Flags. The 2021 season confirmed the trend and good performance and in 2022 and 2023 success was once again complete.

Remember that the year 2021 was marked by a new river beach, Pedras Ruivas, in Seixas.

The Blue Flag is a symbol of environmental quality awarded annually to river and coastal beaches that apply for the award and that meet a set of criteria.

In a press conference at the “Janela do Oceano”, at the Vasco da Gama Aquarium, ABAE announced that, in 2024, the International Jury of the Blue Flag Program awarded, in Portugal, 440 Blue Flags, of which 398 in Beaches, 19 in Marinas and 23 in Ecotourism Vessels.

It was also mentioned that, among the 63 countries that develop the Blue Flag Program, ABAAE occupies the sixth position considering the total number of beaches awarded and maintains second place with regard to both the number of ecotourism vessels awarded, and beaches of interior.
