After Hamas announced that it accepted the proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip mediated by Egypt and Qatar, the Israeli Defense Forces revealed that they had bombed more than 50 targets of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in the Rafah region in the last few hours. The bombings were directed at “terrorist sites” located in the extreme south of the Palestinian enclave in preparation for the entry of Israeli ground forces into eastern Rafah, according to the Army’s military spokesman, Daniel Hagari.
On Monday morning, the Israeli Defense Forces issued an evacuation order for the eastern Rafah region, affecting around one hundred thousand people, in the first step of a large-scale offensive against the region, where there are more 1.2 million displaced people.
However, Israel indicated that it will analyze the ceasefire proposal, but has already considered it “superficial” and argued that it is “not the same proposal” as an agreement that Israel and Egypt reached 10 days ago, and which served as the basis for all indirect negotiations, revealed Israeli channel 12.
This plan is organized into several steps. The first envisages the release of 33 hostages in exchange for the release of hundreds of terrorists, a ceasefire lasting more than a month, the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Netzer Corridor and increased humanitarian aid. In a second, the release of soldiers and men, in exchange for the release of serious terrorists with long prison sentences and continuing the ceasefire for more than a month. And finally, the release of the bodies of hostages held in Gaza and the total withdrawal of the IDF from the Gaza Strip.
It is recalled that for several months now, Egypt and Qatar have been mediating talks between Israel and Hamas, seeking to find a solution to the war sparked by the attack by the Islamist movement on Israeli territory, last October.
