Liberal Initiative proposes the application of the mobility subsidy model that allows you to pay 86 euros for a trip between Madeira and the mainland. The party force also proposes studying the creation of a line between outermost regions that connects Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands.

The Liberal Madeira Initiative considered that the mobility of Madeirans, and in particular the citizens of Porto Santo, is a “critical” issue that requires “concrete and immediate” answers.

The party force understands that the “effective implementation” of measures to improve inter-island air connections and with the continent is “crucial”, and adds that resolving this problem “would not only facilitate the daily lives of Madeirans but would boost tourism and local economy”.

The Liberal Initiative says that the application of the mobility subsidy model, which had previously been approved by the Assembly of the Republic and later suspended by the PS, involving the payment of 86 euros, is a measure that must be “immediately” implemented.

“This subsidy would mean reducing the upfront payment of the total cost of travel for residents, promoting greater territorial and social integration between Madeira and other areas of Portuguese territory,” stated the party.

The Liberal Initiative says that another of its proposals involves studying the creation of an inter-outermost region line that connects Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands.

“This line would not only strengthen ties between these regions, but it will also be a source of economic development, having full potential to obtain community financing. Support from the European Union would be essential, as these regions share similar challenges in terms of accessibility and development”, says the party.

“It is imperative that the competent authorities, both at regional and national level, work together to implement and finance these solutions, ensuring that mobility is not just a promise, but a tangible reality for all Madeirans. Continuous collaboration and political commitment are essential to transform these proposals into effective actions that will benefit everyone”, reinforced the party’s strength.
