This Monday, May 6th, the BE coordinator accused Chega of “dirty play” by trying to turn “racist attacks” in Porto into a debate on immigration and highlighted that it is the extreme right that the PSD/Madeira wants to support. collate.

“The extreme right-wing parliamentarians and André Ventura are trying to transform a racist attack into a debate on immigration. It’s a dirty game, it’s a cowardly game, […] that uses social crime as an excuse and as a justification for racist, criminal attacks that have no excuse”, stated Mariana Mortágua.

Speaking at a dinner-rally in Funchal, as part of BE’s parliamentary days, which began in the region today and ends on Tuesday, the bloc coordinator once again addressed the attacks against immigrants that occurred in Porto, in the early hours of Friday. .

“Social crime must be combated, whether committed by Portuguese or immigrants and this is not at stake in the rule of law. We all have the right to live in safety, now André Ventura [líder do Chega] does not condemn racist and violent crimes because Chega explicitly promotes them with its anti-immigration speech”, he accused.

And he added: “André Ventura does not condemn racist crimes because it is in Chega that Mário Machado’s criminal gangs are reviewed and it is these gangs that André Ventura legitimizes and vindicates with his anti-immigration speech.” Mariana Mortágua reinforced that “the extreme right is violence, it is hate, it is criminality” and highlighted that “it is with them that the PSD/Madeira wants to form a coalition to stay in power” in the autonomous region after the early elections on May 26 .

“But that’s not all, it’s not just the extreme right that the PSD/Madeira wants to form a coalition with to stay in power, it’s the PSD/Madeira that they like the most. Because now they can say that they don’t get along with corrupt people , but everyone remembers when Chega was jumping around to enter the Regional Government and to form a coalition with the PSD/Madeira”, he said.

The BE coordinator appealed, to the dozens of activists and supporters present at the dinner, not to “make mistakes”, stressing that “those who incite hatred towards immigrants are exactly the same ones who protect and benefit from financial interests, speculative interests, irresponsible interests that lower wages and increase house prices”.

“Then the coalition always works, the right always understands each other and the rest are power games. When it comes to protecting economic games, the right always understands”, insisted Mariana Mortágua, countering that the Left Bloc “has another fiber ” and “commitment to truth, equality and justice”.

In her speech lasting around 20 minutes, the bloc coordinator also recalled that BE’s parliamentary days focus on the themes of environmental destruction, the housing crisis and corruption, highlighting that they have one thing in common: “Miguel Albuquerque, the PSD/ Wood”.

“They are all based on a lie that was told to Madeirans, to Porto-Santenses, over and over again, by the right and beyond, […] which says that what is good for half a dozen economic groups and economic interests is good for the people and is good for the region”, he added.

Mariana Mortágua gave as an example the construction of hotels and luxury condominiums and stated that those who build them “don’t have the money to rent a room”. The blocker once again listed the party’s measures to combat the housing crisis, such as imposing ceilings on rents, lowering interest rates on housing loans, extending lease terms to five years and suspending hotel licenses.

The BE coordinator, Dina Letra, the deputy elected to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira and re-candidate, Roberto Almada, and the blocist deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, José Soeiro, also spoke at the dinner-rally.
