“Let’s go!” The invitation is made by the village of Meirinhas, whose parish council is once again promoting the Fava Festival, between the 10th and 12th of May, next to the local community hall.

The menu, in this fifth edition, consists of several dishes based on legumes, but there will also be space, during the three days, for handicrafts, a Fava Walk, on Sunday, the 12th, and entertainment.

Friday night is entertained by Graciano Ricardo, Saturday lunch will be attended by the “Concertinas Marquês de Pombal” and Saturday dinner is entertained by the Meirinhas artist Xico à Portuguesa.

During the event, the organization expects to make around a ton of broad beans.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, the sound booth is handed over to DJs Bagunçada.

On Sunday, the concertina parade and lunch will be accompanied by the music of the Carlos Barbosa Concertina School Group.

The Fava Festival closes on Sunday afternoon with a performance by Ruizinho de Penacova.

Outside the stage, visitors can watch a culinary demonstration, which uses broad beans as the basis for making gastronomic delicacies, or purchase handicrafts and regional products from around two dozen exhibitors.

In 2023, close to a thousand meals will be served, according to data from the parish council, and this year, the expectation is to surpass the number-

The broad bean menu serves a different dish every day of the event, but the traditional “Favas à Meirinhas”, broad bean stew with ribs, sausages and poached egg, can be tasted on all three days of the event.

There will always be another meat dish and another fish dish accompanied by legumes.

In the organization of the Fava Festival, in addition to the local authority, the parish’s authorities are involved. The Associação Recreativa de Meirinhas, Associação de Pais, Associação Lar da Felicidade run the taverns and share the profits obtained.

This is a way for the Board to help the associations and groups that have supported Festiva da Fava.

Among the new features planned for this year is the opening of Espaço Favolas, to entertain children, who are looked after by volunteer monitors, in an initiative promoted by the young board president.

“This is a way to promote youth volunteering, community spirit and the responsibility of young people and teenagers”, says a note from the parish council.
