On the eve of another ISEC anniversary, what is your assessment of the last year?

The balance of the last year is positive. I begin by highlighting the reduction in school dropout rates. One of the factors that contributed to this fact is the careful monitoring carried out by the different course directors on the progress of students with the most difficulties.
I also highlight the stability and renewal of the Pedagogical Council. In an institution like ISEC, a lot of attention and action is required in almost real time. In this aspect it was possible to raise the level. Those who benefited from this change were, without a doubt, the students.
We also continue to be sought after by external partners. In addition to the satisfaction we feel, the increase in partnerships with reference companies strengthens and helps the school to grow.
This year also saw an increase in scientific production, as a result of the continuous encouragement given to our teachers and students, including support from the Polytechnic of Coimbra. I would also like to highlight the implementation of the Research Center for Asset Management and Systems Engineering (RCM2+), which appears as a way of reinforcing ISEC’s scientific production capacity, and is also an added value for the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

How will the 2024 celebrations take place?

It is with great joy that we will bring together the academic community and our esteemed partners and friends for a special celebration, marking ISEC Day. This event, to be held tomorrow (May 8), is an opportunity to recognize and honor those who contributed to the growth and success of this institution.
We will pay a warm tribute to the staff and teachers who dedicated years of service to ISEC and we are proud to distinguish the best students, both from the undergraduate, master’s and Higher Professional Technical Courses.
In recognition of its notable contributions to helping the development of the city of Coimbra, the region and the country, ISEC is honored to distinguish the Coimbra Coletiva association and, to end this memorable day, we invite everyone to join us on a Sunset unforgettable.

Has the number of students increased in the last year?

The number of students at ISEC remains stable due to restrictions on increasing places in courses with high demand. Although the Civil Engineering course continues to have little demand, we compensated the number of students with bachelor’s and master’s courses in Sustainable Cities Management. We were the first institution in Portugal to offer training in this area. It has been a success.
