Banco de Portugal applies fines of 1.4 million in the first quarter
Between January and March there were 255 cases initiated. Of these, 107 were for infractions of a behavioral nature.

Mário Centeno has been Governor of Banco de Portugal since 2020, in a mandate that ends next year.
The Bank of Portugal imposed fines of 1.4 million euros in the first quarter of this year, within the scope of 156 completed processes, he said this Tuesday in a statement.
Of the 156 processes completed between January and March, 68 concern infractions of a behavioral nature45 to infringements of the rules on cash recirculation, 34 to infringements of a prudential nature, seven to infringements related to illicit financial activity and two to infringements of duties relating to the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.
It was within the scope of these processes that fines of 1,419,600.00 euros were imposed, of which 54 thousand euros suspended in its execution.
In the first quarter there were 255 cases initiated. Of these, 107 were for infractions of a behavioral nature, 105 for infractions related to illicit financial activity, 38 for infractions of a prudential nature and five for infractions of duties relating to the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.
In the last quarter of 2023, Banco de Portugal had concluded 282 administrative offense cases and imposed fines worth two million euros.
