The Municipality of Faro will transfer an amount of more than 2.5 million euros to the municipality’s school groups this year.
After having approved, in February, a protocol for the delegation of powers and transfer of resources worth 1 million 370 thousand euros, the Municipality of Faro says in a statement that it approved, on April 24th, an addendum to the protocol to increase the funding of over 1,129 thousand euros, in order to support the João de Deus, Pinheiro e Rosa, Tomás Cabreira, D. Afonso III, Montenegro school groups, as well as the Dr. Alberto Iria School Group (located in the municipality of Olhão, but with responsibilities in terms of management of EB1 in Culatra).
According to the municipality, the increase in the funds to be transferred aims to ensure, among other needs, “the conservation and maintenance of educational buildings (pre-school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle), the project of children’s folklore, as well as the first tranche for needy students (school social action)».
The amount means «a record amount» transferred by the Municipality of Faro to the municipality’s school groups, within the scope of the protocols for the delegation of powers and transfer of resources, compared to 2.2 million euros in the year 2023.
In the statement, the municipality recalls that, in parallel, it is also preparing an action to requalify its school park, in a set of investments that amount to more than 16 million euros, with the construction of the new EB/JI Afonso III school, and the requalifications School EB 2, 3 Afonso III, EB 2, 3 Neves Júnior and the school and nursery building that make up EB1 Estoi.
