In five sessions, this Butoh Dance course begins with an approach to Japanese history and daily life through the relationships between the Japanese among themselves (religiosity, beliefs and festivities) and with the Portuguese, in a brief presentation of the Portuguese-Japanese relationship. (first session).

In the following sessions, we will continue to present the fundamental principles of the Butoh movement: origin and historical context, aesthetics, creative process and Western influences.

THE PROGRAM UNDERSTANDS:

  • I work on breathing, the spiral and contact with the earth to tune in to the “magnetic body”.
  • Gait variations, one of the bases of Butoh, refining the senses and opening the doors of sensitivity and imagination.
  • Free improvisation on the festivities of the Japanese annual calendar and other pieces from the museum’s collection. An image, an object, will awaken the memories inscribed in our body, transmitted through our ancestors and our culture. The body will become available to the “voices” and emotions suggested by the pictorial richness of festivals and celebrations.
  • Creation of characters using props.

It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and thick socks.
