The president of Chega, André Ventura, considered this Tuesday that the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, “is a little disoriented” and threatened again to reject the State Budget for next year if the document “is bad”.

“The Prime Minister is a little disoriented. He should be focused on solving the problems he promised and didn’t solve,” he said, calling on Luís Montenegro “to focus on governing.”

Pointing out that “victimization has a limit”, André Ventura considered that “there will be a moment when people get tired of this discourse of ‘they won’t let me govern, I wanted to but they won’t let me'”.

On the sidelines of a visit to Feira da Ladra, in Lisbon, the leader of Chega was asked about the prime minister’s criticisms on Monday. Luís Montenegro accused the PS of “giving a hand” to Chega and André Ventura’s party of being the “enough” of the socialists.

“I heard the leader of the PS say that I promoted hate speech, violence, division. If this is attacking a party, I don’t know what it is like to attack a party”, he replied.

André Ventura considered that the PSD/CDS-PP executive “should govern better instead of worrying about what is happening in parliament between Chega, the PS, the Left Bloc or the Liberal Initiative”, warning that there are several professional sectors that ” they are becoming discouraged, frustrated and tired.”

“Whether the Prime Minister likes it or not, Chega is not in parliament to be anyone’s crutch, neither for the PSD nor for anyone else. When it comes to projects and proposals that lower taxes, that end tolls, that raise pensions, that give dignity to former combatants, that give dignity to the police, that help businesspeople, we will be there”, regardless of the party that presents them, he guaranteed, noting that this has been “the tradition” of his party.

The president of Chega reiterated that the PSD leader must “fulfill the promises he made” during the election campaign.

“If you don’t want to, know the way to the Belém Palace, get in the car, go there and say, Mr. President, I don’t have the conditions to govern, I want to leave. And the President of the Republic can call me and I’m ready “, he stated.

André Ventura also said that the PSD parliamentary leader “is lying” when he said that there was an agreement between the two parties on matters such as tolls, the IRS or the election of the president of the Assembly of the Republic.

“The Prime Minister made a decision not to make agreements with Chega or the Socialist Party, now he can’t complain that he doesn’t have a majority. It was he who didn’t want that majority,” he said, noting that Luís Montenegro knows how contact him.

Asked whether Chega could vote against the State Budget for next year, André Ventura noted that the document is not yet known, but warned that “if these small maneuvers that have been seen in the IRS and tolls continue, if this is the PSD budget, so you can be sure”.

“We promised people a serious fiscal shock, we promised a salary increase, we made a promise of a sustainable increase in pensions. If we now come to the Budget and there is none of this with the argument that there is no money, that after all things are not as they were, you can be sure”, that Chega will vote against, he stated.

“Our coalition is with the people and, therefore, if the budget is bad it will not have our vote, if it is good, it will have our vote”, he reinforced.
