CCDR Algarve – Agriculture and Fisheries promotes Seminar on ‘Carob’ in SB Alportel

CCDR Algarve IP – Agriculture and Fisheries is promoting a seminar entitled ‘Alfarroba’, which is scheduled for May 16th, starting at 3pm, in the Main Hall of the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Council, which aims to debate the Valorization of Traditional Genetic Resources, New Crops and Irrigation Water Management in the Context of Climate Change.

Remember that ‘Carob’ is the fruit of the carob plant, a legume grown in the Mediterranean region, with Portugal and Spain being the main world producers. The fruit constitutes a pod 10 to 20 cm long by 2 or 3 cm wide and its composition is 90% pulp and 10% seeds.
