The Aver-o-Mar School Group now has a snoezelen room, called ‘Sensory Sea’. The multisensory space was inaugurated on Monday (6), at the Escola Básica de Aver-o-Mar, and is open to the entire community.

A snoezelen room is a multisensory environment that allows you to stimulate the classic senses such as touch, taste, sight, sound, smell, as well as awareness of your body and position, and balance.

The room is intended for audiences of all ages, “from students to the elderly, without forgetting the possibility of use by teachers and staff”, indicates the Group. “To this end, an internal training plan will be promoted, by the Multidisciplinary Support Team for Inclusive Education and in conjunction with the Schools Association Training Center, to allow the most direct users of the room to learn about the available equipment and its function, in order to promote a plan tailored to each visitor to the space, whether by their own motive or by proposal from third parties”, he adds.

Therapy through sensory stimulation in a snoezelen room was already a reality for some of the students on the autism spectrum in the Group, through CRI MAPADI.
