The Braga Mais Association, together with the Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora da Torre, will organize, on the morning of next Saturday, May 11th, the guided tour “Here we no longer saw Mãe Querida”, which aims to evoke the Marian devotions of Braga that once exhibited particular vitality.

This initiative, which coincides with the month that Christians particularly devote to the Virgin Mary, has as its starting point the Church of the Savior, at 10:00, being guided by Rui Ferreira.

In the vast repository of cults of Braga’s religiosity, countless private devotions to the Mother of Jesus flourished, to which the Cathedral would be devoted, and the city itself in the 12th century. Until the peak of popularity reached by Nossa Senhora do Sameiro in contemporary times, there were some Marian evocations that aimed for singular vitality.

How not to remember the popular Nossa Senhora das Graças, venerated in the failed Convento dos Remédios, which centered the Braga devotional from the month of Mary until the definitive affirmation of Sameiro. Or the Marian devotions that protected the main doors of the medieval walls, as was the case of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda or Nossa Senhora da Abadia.

This list cannot also be absent from the opulent devotional practices that the Carmelites performed to Our Lady of Carmel and the Jesuits devoted to Our Lady of Good Death.

This evocation has an obligatory passage in the Oratory of Senhora da Torre where this recently rehabilitated Marian devotion will be remembered, which was installed in the 17th century inside one of the towers of the Braga defensive circuit, and which would gain singular prominence after the 1755 earthquake. .

This guided tour has the collaboration of Lar Conde de Agrolongo and the Pastoral Unit of Sé, Ctividade and São João do Souto.
