Chamusca receives 4 million euros from PRR to requalify secondary school

The Mayor of Chamusca City Council, Paulo Queimado, signed this Tuesday, the financing contract of 3,981,519.60 euros (three million, nine hundred and eighty-one thousand, five hundred and nineteen euros and sixty cents), under the Plan of Recovery and Resilience (PRR), which translates into the granting of financial support for the Chamusca Secondary School Redevelopment project.

According to the municipality, this support aims to continue the progress recorded in the last decade regarding early school leaving, contribute to more attractive and inclusive education and, at the same time, promote the construction and renovation of physical spaces aligned with the objectives of the green transition. and digital.

The renovation works at Chamusca Secondary School began at the end of the 2021/2022 academic year and involve an investment of more than six million euros, of which one million and seventy-seven thousand euros correspond to funding from PT2020 – FEDER.

This work, fundamental for the Municipality of Chamusca, aims to create better teaching conditions, alongside concern for the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings, which will improve the comfort of students, teachers and non-teachers, with particular emphasis on hydrothermal, acoustic conditions, air quality, safety and accessibility.

The requalification of the Main School marks the culmination of the requalifications that have been carried out in the last decade in all schools in the municipality, from pre-school education to the first cycle, in an investment by the Municipality worth around 11 millions of euros. The School Center, opened in 2019 in Chamusca, the largest project carried out in the last 10 years, continues to be a source of pride for the entire City Council executive, as it is considered one of the best educational centers in the country and an example of excellence in educational infrastructure.

The protocol ceremony took place at the premises of the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-LVT), in Lisbon, and was attended by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. The Deputy Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, who ratified the document, also participated in the session, as well as the Secretaries of State for Education, Alexandre Homem de Cristo, and Regional Development, Hélder Reis, and the president of the CCDR-LVT, Teresa Almeida.
