PAN Madeira’s candidacy today defended more support for the animal cause so that the necessary mechanisms and instruments can be guaranteed to create more and better responses from the community.
According to the candidacy led by Mónica Freitas, the Region needs a “free vaccination and sterilization program; the development of a regional census on stray animals; awareness in schools and with entities: and greater influence and support for Municipalities to create animal collection centers and to establish the figure of the municipal veterinarian”.
In a press release, the party “also defends the recognition of the Temporary Foster Care Family Statute with a range of benefits in terms of employment, access and various facilities that compensate families who are available to temporarily and responsibly host animals” .
“It is also essential to have more legislation, especially with regard to neglect and the regulation of animals for certain purposes such as begging. We must hold people responsible for their actions, in order to prevent these situations and guarantee animal rights”, reads the same statement.
PAN visited the Vasco Gil kennel today, in order to monitor the renovation works that are being carried out in order to improve the conditions of the animals and the people who work there.
“The effort and dedication of the workers and Volunteers, who deal daily with situations of abandonment, mistreatment and animals in need of shelter, health care and attention, is undeniable”, states the note .
