It was during the last municipal assembly that the issue was addressed, after the Socialist Party presented a motion, demanding that the withdrawal of services from the Mirandela hospital be halted.

At issue is the risk of that unit losing some outpatient surgeries for Macedo de Cavaleiros and Bragança.

The PS says it is aware of the existence of pressure to force the removal of ENT and ophthalmology surgeries from Mirandela and move them to the Macedo de Cavaleiros and Bragança units.

Luís Soares, president of the Mirandela council, does not hide the revolt, saying that “if it is a Local Health Unit, it is not just about removing services from the Mirandela hospital. Why don’t they also go to other hospitals, such as Macedo and Bragança, which have a significant number in the areas of internal medicine and surgery, and why can’t they be relocated depending on the needs of this hospital, why does the opposite only happen”, questions.

Faced with this scenario, the PS municipal group presented the motion “For the maintenance, valorization and improvement of health services in Mirandela”, which was unanimously approved.

The motion was, however, sent to the administration of ULS do Nordeste, to the executive management of the SNS, to the Minister of Health and to all parliamentary groups in the Assembly of the Republic.
