The celebrations of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Quarteira’s elevation to the category of city take place over three days. On May 10th, Passeio das Dunas hosts the play “Aluga-se” by the Quarteira Community Theater Group, coordinated by Coletivo JAT – Janela Aberta Teatro. Afterwards, the festivities venue hosts a night dedicated to fado with performances by André Catarino, Melissa Simplício and Pedro Viola, accompanied by musicians Nuno Martins and Ricardo Martins.
The second day of celebrations brings something new. The municipality of Quarteira will present the parish’s promotional film “Quarteira is not just any story”, at 9:30 pm, on Passeio das Dunas, followed by the concert by the artist Nuno Guerreiro and the Banda Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva, with the participation of Grupo Coral from Quarteira.
City Day, May 13th, is reserved for traditional protocol ceremonies. The raising of the flag with the graduation of the Loulé Municipal Firefighters begins at 9am, next to the Municipal Center Building. This is followed by the usual protocol session which, this year, will also remember Filipe Viegas, who recently left and was former president of the municipality during the 1998-2001 mandate, a period in which Quarteira was elevated to city status and the Quarteira Fishing Port, one of the most important infrastructures for fishing activities. The ceremonies close with testimonies from the community entitled “25 Years of Experiences”.
The event is organized by the Quarteira Parish Council, with the support of the Loulé City Council.
